Students Create Fan Section to Bring in More Attendance at All IUPUI Games

At IUPUI, many don’t know about all of the great things that happen on campus. IUPUI sports are not well known like  IU and Purdue and struggle with attendance at games. A group of fellow IUPUI Jaguars are looking to change that, by making their very own student section, the Jagpound.

IUPUI junior, Jacob Clamme, is studying mechanical engineering. He is the Founder of Jagpound.

“The Jagpound is the official student section of IUPUI,” Clamme said. “We started it my freshman year during basketball season. It started with me and a few of my friends when we started to go to basketball games and there wasn’t really an organized student section, so we started doing our own chants even though there were only four of us to start.”

IUPUI junior, Josh Samuel, is studying Biomedical Engineering and is the co-founder of Jagpound.

“The Jagpound is the official student section of IUPUI and it started with just four of us during our freshman year, but we were able to integrate into SAPB and grow them as well,” Samuel said.

After the 2020-2021 school year, the Jagpound wants to find new fans and new energy to help support the Jaguars.

“2020-2021 was a tough year for the Jagpound, but we chose to use this year to raise awareness of our new organization,” Samuel said. “This included t-shirts, giveaways, sand volleyball tournaments, and more. This year has the potential to be great. I feel like a lot of students are itching to, and are getting to get out there and support IUPUI athletics since it is a large part of any college experience.” Samuel said.

During the college experience, taking classes are very important but so is getting a fun experience.

“They can join the Spirit Committee within [SAPB] to be part of the leadership team,” Clamme said. “They can also sign up for text alerts by texting @jagpound to 81010.”

Anyone can get involved by joining the section during any home game. If you want to become a full-fledged spirit committee member, you can contact  SAPB through the Spot. Follow Jagpound on Twitter and on Instagram @jagpound.
